I have to replace a valve cover gasket, I don't have a wrm place to let it set so I have to do it out in the cold. will the RTV set out there in that crappy winter weather?

Depending on which kind you use. I think some of them don't require a set time. Are you using the basic black rtv?

When I had to use RTV black for a temperary oil pan leak patch, I used a hair dryer on low for about 5 min, That helped it set and lasted until I got home.
Hope this helps

On the internet, you can be anything you want to be.
Yet it still amazes me that so many people choose to be stupid.

Use the ultra blue. I used it to patch a hole in a oil pan. It was 7 below out side. I let the oil leak out over night. Plugged the hole in the am. filled with oil 2 hours later and drove it out of the woods. hell i drove it for 3 months till summer time before i put a new oil pan on it..

If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

haha, if it works just roll with it

The blue works in the winter. Ive used it many times on cars, and I normally do valve work on the bikes during the winter months.

Well, yall be me to it! If you haven't bought any yet go get the blue, I recomend keeping a tube of a couple different types in your tool box.

:? If your using a new gasket just clean the surface very well and you shouldn't need a sealant. Most car manufactures advise against a sealant on anything where the sealant can break away and get into the system to clog oil ports or the pump screen.

Authority should derive from the consent of the governed, not from threat of force!

if you are replacing a gasket with a new one and the part in question is not damaged you dont need anything. The only thing i would suggest is using permatex red hi-tack spray. It is simply a gasket adhesive that will hold it in place while you assemble a part.

But yes RTV will harden when cold...it just takes longer.
